Q & A's
I've gotten many questions about our trip. Here are some answers.
Q. How many countries will you visit?
A. Nine for sure -- Ireland, England, France, Switzerland, Austria, Czechia, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands. Possibly Liechtenstein and Luxembourg.
Q. What about currency?
A. We need British pounds, Swiss francs, Czech crowns, and, of course, Euros. And a charge card.
Q. Did you use a travel agent?
A. No. The two of us found the places we wanted to stay in the cities we where wanted to be -- a long process. We chose some apartments/condos/ houses through AirBNB and others were booked directly with a hotel.
Beyond that, Earl did the technical research and bookings, such as car, ferry, train, etc. I researched what there is to do at each location and have lists of possibilities.
Q. So you're traveling by car in Europe?
A. Yes. We have a car reserved in England (right-side driver) for after we take the ferry from Dublin. Three weeks later we'll leave that car in London and take the Eurostar train to Paris. After Paris, we pick up another car for the rest of the trip. Earl has renewed his international driving permit.
Q. Do you have a firm daily itinerary?
A. Only in Paris. We have never been to Paris and I have planned eight days jam-packed with what we want to see. So Paris will be how we usually vacation, with non-stop sight-seeing.
We have also booked a few events during The Grand Tour -- some concerts, a lecture, and even a apple-strudel class in Austria.
But the vast majority of our trip will have us waking up each day and saying, "What do we want to do today?"
Q. Will you get homesick?
A. Undoubtedly. I have warned The Mister.
Q. What happens if something goes wrong?
A. We will handle it the best way we can, just the same as we do here. One of my resolutions for this trip is "I will not worry about possibilities."
Q. What are you bringing me?
A. Ooops! Out of time for this posting ...
